Giving Thanks

Operation Helping Hand Ray Team 004.jpgOn Thursday, November 19th Ray Team members Lindsay, Camille, Rebecca, Sam and Shannon volunteered for an Operation Helping Hand Thanksgiving Dinner.  The girls greeted guests, prepared drinks, served tables and delivered gifts to families and wounded soldiers staying in the Spinal Cord Injury Unit at James A Haley Veterans Memorial Hospital in Tampa.  Operation Helping Hand’s Tampa Chapter was established in 2004 to support wounded veterans recovering from injury at the James A. Haley VA Hosiptal.  This was a special night for the Ray Team as they shared a special evening with these brave soldiers and their families.

Operation Helping Hand Ray Team 003.jpgWe’d like to give an extra special thank you to our fellow volunteers from MacDill Air Force Base!  Pictured above are A1C Fanchon Staples, A1C Reyna Cornett, A1C Adrian Henry and SSgt Benito Rodriguez.

If we build it…

Picture 002.jpgA few weeks ago  the Ray Team visited YMCA Camp Cristina to announce the Rays partnership with KaBOOM!.  In December, more than 200 volunteers from the Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA, organizers from KaBOOM! and residents of the Riverview community will join forces to build a new, safe playground at the YMCA Camp Cristina.

Members of the Rays front office, the YMCA and KaBOOM! along with Raymond, the Ray Team and Rays Street Team all participated in a Design Day event where children designed their dream playground.  The actual playground that will be built on the site next month is based on the drawings and ideas of these great kids!

100_8662.JPGOn Ocotber 3rd the fall season of Miracle League baseball began!  The Ray Team, volunteers from ECOT and Rays catcher Shawn Riggans were on hand to participate.

Since we began volunteering with the Miracle League in February of 2009 the Ray Team has made some great friends!  We look forward to playing baseball with our buddies every Saturday morning.  It’s a great place to have fun, cheer on your friends and share a miracle or two.

This past week, Courtney, Frankie and Shannon came out to cheer on the Miracle Leaguers.  The Florida heat was no match for these sluggers!  We counted 5 home runs, 9 steals and countless smiles.  Of course, the Rays won!  But remember, everyone is a winner when they play for the Miracle League of Gulf Beaches 🙂
