During the month of May, the Ray Team had a lot to celebrate. The Rays gained a great winning streak on the road and Nelly performed at Hip Hop Night. However, one Ray Team member had even more reason to celebrate this month. Lyndsey B, who is in her first year on the squad was selected Ray Team Member of the Month! Lyndsey proved that rookies are just as valuable on the team as veterans. She is always the first to arrive, the last to leave, and always willing to jump right in to new experiences. We asked Lyndsey to tell us why she likes being on the Ray Team, and this is what she said:
” It is now almost half way through the season and the weather is getting hotter and hotter as the summer progresses but the weather isn’t the only thing heating up. The Rays continue to show that they belong at the top and as a part of the Ray Team it’s been great seeing the action as it happens and cheering the boys on every step! The experience has been one of the best things to ever happen to me. I have made so many friends on the team but also with the kids that come to the games. I am now a proud owner of several silly bands from some of my favorite kids.
Some of my most inspiring moments have come from charity events and Rays watch parties, seeing so many celebrities and fans come together and donate time and money for children in the community and families bringing their children out and enjoying fun in the sun while cheering on the Rays!! Being a part of this team will be something I will cherish for a life time! So fans come on out to the Trop and help us cheer on the Rays!!!”
The month of April was a fantastic time for the Rays. They had the best record in baseball, swept the Boston Red Sox in their home turf, in addition to having some great concert acts! Not only were the Rays off to a great start, but the Ray Team was also enjoying their favorite time of the year, baseball season. The Ray Team did a great job of cheering on fans as the Rays record kept improving. However, Ray Team member Rachael D, stood out above the rest. Rachael is in her second season on the squad and has truly took on the role of a leader. The new members look up to Rachael for guidance and also as a friend. Rachael’s personality makes her a huge asset to the squad. She excels in every aspect of the job, from running around the bases with young fans to cheering on the dugouts for Rays victories. When we asked Rachael what she likes about being on the squad, this is what she said:
“I have been on the Ray Team since last season and I can honestly say it has been one of the greatest things I have ever been a part of. I am a full time photographer and opened my own business last year. Being a photographer is my passion and I absolutely love owning my own business, but it can be a bit stressful at times. Being a part of the Ray team is almost like an escape from the busyness of everyday life. I have the privilege to come to the games and be surrounded by the always encouraging Ray Team ladies and staff, the awesome and dedicated fans, and I get to cheer on the best team in baseball!
What an incredible opportunity! There are so many wonderful memories that have been made in this season alone. I have made friendships that will last a lifetime and I look forward to each day I get to spend at the games with these amazing people. I am constantly being encouraged and uplifted, and best of all, at the end of the night, I truly feel like I leave a better person. Lets Go Rays!!!!”
Hey Rays fans!
Can you believe the second home stand has come and gone? The Ray Team had a lot of exciting things occur over these past nine home games, as the Rays record kept improving!
The girls were excited to be waving the victory flags, cheering with the crowd, in addition to getting to dress up for two theme nights at the Trop! On April 24, the Ray Team flashed back to 1960, where they got the fans pumped up for the John Fogerty concert.
Dressing up as hippes, dancing to songs played at Woodstock, and carrying picket signs with sayings such as “Peace, Love, and Baseball” are just some of the ways the Ray Team celebrated a night full of flower power. Rocking flowers in their hair, funky sunglasses, and Woodstock t-shirts helped the girls get into their groovy characters.
After the game (which the Rays won of course!), the Ray Team stayed after to help the crowd get hyped for the kick off of the Summer Concert Series. Throwing beach balls into the crowd and listening to famous songs such as Centerfield be played added a great deal of excitement to the girls Saturday night!
On Sunday, the girls were back to their usual activities, such as the t-shirt launch, Chevy ride around, and the fan favorite, kids run the bases! The faces of the children are starting to look familiar, however, they create new memories each week.
The Ray Team along with their new buddy Recycles McGee, cheer on and greet the kids as they round the bases just like their favorite players. Sometimes a fan or two lose a shoe, hat, or their new favorite Sunday give away, but a team member is always close by to help out!
Over the next few days, the cowbells were ringing, the fans were clapping, and the Ray Team was cheering, as the Rays continued their great home stand! At the end of the week, came another chance for the girls to switch up the routine, as they dressed up for Hall of Fame night!
The Ray Team was rockin’ vintage t-shirts of the greatest Rock and Roll icons, such as The Stones, Led Zeppelin, Elvis, and ACDC. Though the girls weren’t wearing the famous chest length beards, they were very excited for the ZZ Top concert post game. The Rays celebrated all sorts of Hall of Famers on May 1st, from Jackie Robinson to Bruce Springsteen. We asked the girls who their favorite Hall of Famer was, and member Lindsey G’s response was “Easy, Wade Boggs.” Whether they were celebrating their favorite musical artist, or remembering the time Wade Boggs number was retired, the Ray Team had a blast at Hall of Fame Night.
The Ray Team was ready and waiting for the first home stand of the 2010 season! The returning members were excited to cheer on their favorite team for another season, while the new members were anxious to create memories here in the Trop!
The Ray Team participated in many events over the first week of the season, including our in game promotions, Centerfield Suffle, and Meet the Ray Team. Just like at Fan Fest, Ray fans were given the opportunity to meet and greet with their favorite Tampa Bay Spirit Squad! The girls were selling the 2010 Ray Team calendar, which benefits the Rays Baseball Foundation, while signing autographs and taking pictures with fans.
Besides signing autographs and meeting fans, the Ray Team was also able to help out with Kids Run the Bases after Sunday’s game. Cheering on young Rays fans as they run the bases like their favorite players is what makes Sunday’s so special for the girls!
Getting to react with young fans as they experience running the bases for the first time is an interaction the Ray Team looks forward to week after week!
Part of what makes the Ray Team love being the Official Spirit Squad of the Tampa Bay Rays is building relationships with fans young and old! By the end of the first week the veterans were happy to be back at Tropicana Field for another season, and the Rookies were anxious for the next home stand to begin! The Ray Team loved being back on the dug outs cheering on the Ray’s, and are excited for all the memories and opportunities throughout the 2010 season!
Saturday, February 20th Tropicana Field opened its doors to an estimated 30,000 Rays fans! Fans got a chance to meet Rays players and coaches, get tons of goodies from our sponsors, play some awesome interactive games on the field, and the best part, say hi to the Ray Team!
Most of the crew was on hand to sign autographs, greet fans and take photos. The Ray Team also sold 2010 Ray Team Calendars to benefit Haiti Relief, via the Rays Baseball Foundation. If you’re interested in buying one, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org!
We are so excited for the season to begin. Most of the Rays have already reported to Spring Training down in Port Charlotte. The Ray Team will be attending the Rays Ice Cream Social this Saturday at Charlotte Sports Park from 11am to 2pm. Come see the Rays take batting practice, shop at the Team Store, get an autograph or an ice cream and meet us!
Opening Day is just 42 days away!!!

On Thursday, November 19th Ray Team members Lindsay, Camille, Rebecca, Sam and Shannon volunteered for an Operation Helping Hand Thanksgiving Dinner. The girls greeted guests, prepared drinks, served tables and delivered gifts to families and wounded soldiers staying in the Spinal Cord Injury Unit at James A Haley Veterans Memorial Hospital in Tampa. Operation Helping Hand’s Tampa Chapter was established in 2004 to support wounded veterans recovering from injury at the James A. Haley VA Hosiptal. This was a special night for the Ray Team as they shared a special evening with these brave soldiers and their families.
We’d like to give an extra special thank you to our fellow volunteers from MacDill Air Force Base! Pictured above are A1C Fanchon Staples, A1C Reyna Cornett, A1C Adrian Henry and SSgt Benito Rodriguez.
